Chocolate Popcorn Balls

Here is a fun twist on classic popcorn balls. You can make them in any size up to about three inches. Any larger than that and they become very difficult and messy to eat. In about 15 minutes with just five ingredients, you can make a wonderful homemade treat for your next party.

4 quarts popped popcorn
2 squares unsweetened chocolate (use 1 ounce squares)
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 cup water

Step One: Put popped popcorn in a large heat-proof bowl. Keep popcorn warm in a 200 degree F oven. In a heavy saucepan, melt chocolate. Stir in sugar and corn syrup. Add water. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Continue to cook until a candy thermometer reads 250 degrees F.

Step Two: Pour over warm popcorn and stir until evenly coated. When mixture is cool enough to handle, quickly shape into balls, dipping hands in cold water from time to time to prevent sticking. Cool chocolate popcorn balls on a wire rack. Wrap in plastic wrap.
